For its relatively small size, the state of Massachusetts boasts a prolific amount of post-secondary institutions. Two of the best-known ones are in Cambridge. These are the globally renowned Harvard University and the equally lauded Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

However, Boston MA, the state’s capital city and one of the oldest in the nation. Also plays host to some of the nation’s most accredited educational facilities.  It is home to both private and public institutions. Emerson College: A liberal arts-focused school in Boston founded in 1880, Emerson offers studies in writing, literature, and communication as well as experience in film, journalism marketing, publishing, public relations, and theater.

Emmanuel College: Founded in 1919, this private Roman Catholic liberal arts institution was the first women’s Catholic college in New England. Since 2001, it has been coeducational.

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts: Since 1894, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts has been a public institution with a focus on providing a solid education in the liberal arts. The courses embrace everything from art and fine art to the humanities and social sciences.

Northeastern University:, Northeastern University, a non-profit private experiential research institution, has been offering its services to Boston since 1898. Of particular interest to some is the IDEA Venture Accelerator. This program offers support to those who are aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs.

Berklee College of Music: Since 1945, the non-profit Berklee College of Music has offered attendees courses and programs in the field of music.

University of Massachusetts Boston: This non-profit, public educational institution, provides courses potentially resulting in the conferring of bachelor, master, and doctoral degrees. In addition, the University offers certificate programs as well as several in continuing education and distance learning.
